Note — August 24, 2015 This article is insufficiently clear on one detail, namely that one victim (the gunman’s mother) was shot and killed in a separate location. The toll of 28 includes her and the gunman.

Before turning the gun on himself, a 20-year-old male opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, killing 28 people, 20 of them children ranging from five to ten years old. Approximately 600 students were inside the school.

The New York Post identifies the shooter as 20-year-old Adam Lanza. He was reported to be in possession of a .223-caliber assault rifle and two hand guns when he opened fire inside the school. His motives are not yet clear, but reports say his mother Nancy, who was also killed, may have been the target. She was a teacher of a kindergarten class at the school. Adam’s brother Ryan, who was initially reported to be the shooter, is also in police custody.

United States president Barack Obama spoke in a televised address saying, “The majority of those who died today were children — beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. They had their entire lives ahead of them — birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own. Among the fallen were also teachers — men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children fulfill their dreams.

“So our hearts are broken today — for the parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children, and for the families of the adults who were lost. Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well, for as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight, they know that their children’s innocence has been torn away from them too early, and there are no words that will ease their pain.”

A hospital near the school, in Danbury, Connecticut, is currently on lock down. According to The New York Times and Danbury Hospital’s Facebook page, the hospital is treating three of the shooting victims.

Fire fighters in the United Kingdom used a hand grinder to remove a metal ring from a man’s penis 2 days ago. They had been summoned after doctors at the Royal Wigan Infirmary in Greater Manchester became worried that the man may have required amputation of the penis as the ring was cutting off the blood flow.

The man had been taken to the infirmary’s Accident and Emergency department, where attempts were made to cut through the ring. However, this failed as hospital cutting equipment was not strong enough to sever the hard metal the ring was made of.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service responded to the call made at around 12.10 GMT Thursday, after the penis started swelling up. Two fire fighters spent twenty minutes cutting the ring off the then anaesthetised man, who is in his 40s. The mini hand grinder used for the job is more regularly used for tasks such as cutting through padlocks.

A thin sheet of metal was placed around the man’s penis to protect it during the operation. It is thought that the ring had originally been cut off the end of a pipe.

Any driver can remember how important it was to get their first driving license. A driving license represents freedom and coming of age. It means no longer having to depend on mom for rides. This is why a 16th birthday is eagerly anticipated.

Is a 16 year-old really old enough to drive? That question has been debated for many years. After all, 21 is the legal drinking age; and although someone can join the military as young as 17, parental permission is required. So, why should a 16 year-old be considered mature enough to drive a car weighing over a ton on the public roads? In 2000, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety published a report investigating the reasons why 16 became the generally accepted minimum age in the United States for obtaining a driving license. Europe and Australia have is a more appropriate age. It’s well known that young drivers, especially in their first year, have the highest crash rate. However, in the U.S., the age at which one can get a license has not been historically considered to be a safety issue. Attempts to raise the driving age have usually met with considerable resistance.

Arizona has adopted a graduated driver license policy. A teen must have held an Arizona instruction permit for a minimum of 6 months before applying for a graduated driving license. The teen must have also completed satisfactorily an MVD-approved driver education program or have parents certify that their child has had a minimum of 30 hours of supervised driving.

When a parent or guardian signs the minor’s application for a license or permit, they are accepting responsibility for any damage caused by negligence or willful misconduct. Parents are on notice that if their child is in an accident because the young driver was speeding, drinking, etc., they are considered to be equally responsible. Giving in to a teen’s nagging for a license when parents feel that the teen is too immature to drive can prove to be a very foolish and expensive decision. Ford Motor Company said on Tuesday that its sales in the United States rose 43% in February compared to the same period last year, as the automaker outsold rivals Toyota and General Motors.

The strength of our new products … are resonating with customers

Ford said that total sales improved to 142,285 units, compared to 141,951 units sold by GM. Additionally, Ford said that its share of the total US car market rose to 17%, up from 14% a year ago. The increase was better than analysts had predicted, and Ford’s stock rose to a five-year high in morning trading, before declining later in the day. Ford’s sales were significantly influenced by a 74% increase in fleet sales to businesses. Rental car agencies alone accounted for around 30,000 units sold. Sales to retail consumers increased only 28%.

The increases were led by sales of two sedans, the Fusion and Taurus, which rose 166.5 and 93.3% respectively, although sales of other models such as SUVs and pickup trucks also increased. Both models were significantly redesigned last year, and analysts said that improved quality from such cars were driving the increases.

Other companies also reported February sales today, nearly all reporting sales gains as well, although none as large as those of Ford. Toyota was the sole exception to the sales gains, as their sales declined 8.7%, as the company was faced with a global recall during the month that led to a temporary stoppage of production for some models.

“The strength of our new products … are resonating with customers,” said Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of sales and marketing. However, he believed that traditional Toyota customers were not buying rival autos, but rather awaiting the results from the recalls.

Six teenagers were killed in a horrific road accident near Mildura in north-western Victoria, Australia late at night on February 18.

Cassandra Manners, aged 16, Stevie-Lee Weight, 15, Cory Dowling, 16, Shane Hirst, 16, and his sister, Abby Hirst, 17, died at the scene. Josephine Calvi, 16, was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she later died of head injuries. Seven other teenagers were injured, including 15-year-old Marco Medici who is now in a stable but critical condition in The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

The accident occurred after the teenagers left a 16th birthday party and walked along Myall Road, Cardross, south-east of Mildura. A car allegedly came speeding around a bend, hit the gravel on the side of the road, lost control and struck the group. The alleged driver, later identified as 34-year-old Thomas Graham Towle, fled the scene on foot, leaving his 10-year-old daughter and four-year-old son in the car. Towle was later arrested by police in Redcliffs. He was taken to Mildura police station for questioning.

Towle has been charged with six charges of culpable driving causing death, four charges of negligently causing serious injury, one charge of failing to stop and one charge of failing to render assistance after an accident. Towle faced Mildura Magistrates’ Court on February 20. Magistrate John Dugdale remanded him into custody to reappear before the court on June 26.

Meanwhile, the town of Mildura and surrounding areas is in deep mourning. Premier Steve Bracks said the State Government will provide $AU40,000 for counselling and support services.

Around 3,000 people attended the funeral for Josephine Calvi today. Funeral services for the other five teenagers were held last week.

Any time that you have been the victim of an accident, you need to think about filing a lawsuit. Many people will tell you that if you go after the person who caused you this pain, you are only after the money. Unfortunately, this is how it needs to be. When you think about it, you don’t want to have to pay for these medical bills out of your own pocket. The person who caused you this pain needs to be held accountable. It doesn’t matter whether it was a situation in which they were not paying attention or if they just didn’t care. Either way, you need a Personal Injury attorney on your side.

Shinbaum and Campbell is a law firm who is going to work hard to protect your rights. They will meet with you and go over the details of your accident. This way, they can let you know how they will be able to help you. They will expect a copy of your medical records involving this accident. This will help them to learn more about the extent of your injuries. This will also give them a better idea as to any future health problems that you may expect. It is horrible to think that you may wake up a few years down the road with health problems that are unexplained. When you look back, it makes perfect sense, it was the accident that is now causing you problems.

There are so many questions that you probably have and you don’t really know where to begin to look for answers. You can turn your problems over to your Personal Injury attorney who is going to be there to help you during this difficult time. If you are contacted by anyone involving this case, refer them to your attorney. This way, someone will not be given the opportunity to take advantage of you. You are legally entitled to certain things. Unless you hire an attorney, things are not going to go the way that you are hoping. Your attorney is going to work in an aggressive manner to help you to get results. Videos
