AH! MAKARANGA!!

A short history: –

The original proprietors of the Lodge, Dana and Chic developed it for the express objective of offering a absolutely functional 5-star accommodation establishment for physically challenged guests and the detail that went into the architecture and also the eventual design displays just how much consideration and thought went into the planning of this magnificent centre with that objective in mind.

It was certainly not intended to be a busy conference venue but when the proprietors discovered that there was such an enormous call for for a centre that\’s completely wheel-chair friendly within the corporate business world, it became apparent that they must open their doors to the corporates on the market, several of which have conference attendees with particular needs.

Considering the lack of these venues nationally, corporate enterprises were delighted once they were invited in! And so it continues but on a larger scale now without having lost any of its authentic charm. It\’s still small enough to be intimate and unique.

The property with its indigenous and exotic botanical gardens had been a private house prior to the current owners\’ purchase of it and was routinely featured in South Africa s primary, glossy Garden and Home magazines as the Garden of the Year .

In the early times of the original Makaranga Garden Lodge, it offered a modest Boardroom and about half the rooms it has today. This centre grew to become so sought after, and so renowned that the proprietors extended it into what it is now. A magnificent centre supplying 5-star standards and facilities in each and every area, at economical prices, located in the center of the residential place of Kloof.

Set within this magical, enchanting, fairy garden, created in part as a Japanese Park, the likes of which I\’ve never experienced, it\’s a mere 15-20 mins drive from Durban and 30 mins from Pietermaritzburg, thus equi-distant and the perfect half way meeting place for convention delegates and businessmen and women between both cities, offering plenty of secure parking.

Makaranga Garden Lodge, a hotel, wedding venue, restaurant and conference centre, is nothing like anywhere else in South Africa.

Occupying the 30 Acres of indigenous and exotic gardens, are 18 ponds, lazy streams and a waterfall all of which are there for your peace, tranquillity and sheer visual indulgence. The hotel or Lodge offers 5-star state-of-the-art conference facilities, a Spa, a restaurant and 20 spacious, luxury rooms, all with magnificent views over the property.
