In an opinion piece published by CNN on Tuesday, Georgetown University law student and women’s rights advocate Sandra Fluke insisted she will not allow slurs from critics to silence her and other women from continuing to speak out on issues regarding women’s health and contraception.

Fluke has faced slurs and personal attacks after speaking before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee in the United States House of Representatives about women’s health and contraception. She was called a “slut” and a “prostitute” by talk radio show host Rush Limbaugh. In response to these attacks, Fluke has received public support from women, members of the media, and politicians including the President of the United States.

Attacking me and women who use contraception by calling us prostitutes and worse cannot silence us.

In her piece for CNN, Fluke took the opportunity to thank her supporters, writing, “By now, many have heard the stories I wanted to share thanks to the congressional leaders and members of the media who have supported me and millions of women in speaking out.” She characterized the “opponents of reproductive health access” who issued personal attacks against her as being motivated by an attempt to change the topic of conversation away from a dialogue about women’s health, and “to silence women’s voices regarding their own health care.”

Fluke wrote that the efforts by some to drown out women from speaking out about women’s health were unsuccessful. She came to this conclusion due to the multitude of positive comments and encouragement sent to her by both female and male individuals urging that contraception medication be considered a medical necessity.

Asserting that she would not remain silent on this issue of women’s health, Fluke wrote, “Attacking me and women who use contraception by calling us prostitutes and worse cannot silence us.”

She noted that a significant majority of women have utilized contraception medication, and commented that there exists a social disconnect between politicians attempting to make it more difficult for women to access this type of health care, and the views of society-at-large about the matter: “Restricting access to such a basic health care service, which 99% of sexually experienced American women have used and 62% of American women are using right now, is out of touch with public sentiment.”

Fluke concluded her piece by emphasizing that those in power should not govern based on ideology: “I am proud to stand with the millions of women and men who recognize that our government should legislate according to the reality of our lives — not for ideology.”

After being banned by Congressman Darrell Issa from speaking before a Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing on February 16 which consisted mainly of male panelists, Fluke appeared before a meeting of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee convened by Minority leader of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi on February 23.

Fluke spoke to the committee about the need for contraception to be covered by health care plans offered by employers, as a matter integral to women’s health. She cited multiple cases where women take contraception medication as part of their health care for treatment of medical conditions unrelated to birth control, including two women who suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome, a woman who is afflicted with endometriosis and another who takes contraception in order to prevent seizures.

Time and time again, women have been silenced in this discussion, a discussion about our own very personal health care decisions.

Speaking before the United States Senate on February 17 along with fellow members Patty Murray, Kirsten Gillibrand, Barbara Boxer, and Charles Schumer, Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire expressed her support for Fluke. Like Fluke, Senator Shaheen pointed out the need not to silence the voices of women in the public government debate about women’s health care: “Time and time again, women have been silenced in this discussion, a discussion about our own very personal health care decisions.” Senator Shaheen concluded her remarks with an explanation as to why she believes women should have significant representation in discussions about their health care: “Women deserve a voice in this debate because, after all, in the end this is about our health and it is about a health care decision that is between women, their families, their doctors, and their own faith.”

President Barack Obama called Fluke on March 2 to express his support for her courage to speak out on issues of women’s health. In his first press conference of 2012 on March 6, he discussed his reasons for deciding to call Fluke.

The President cited his personal thoughts about his own two daughters: “And the reason I called Ms. Fluke is because I thought about Malia and Sasha [Obama’s daughters], and one of the things I want them to do as they get older is to engage in issues they care about, even ones I may not agree with them on. I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way. And I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.”

President Obama went on to state that Fluke served as a positive role model for citizen participation in democracy and society: “And I wanted Sandra to know that I thought her parents should be proud of her, and that we want to send a message to all our young people that being part of a democracy involves argument and disagreements and debate, and we want you to be engaged, and there’s a way to do it that doesn’t involve you being demeaned and insulted, particularly when you’re a private citizen.”

Root canal also known as root canal therapy refers to a procedure that is performed to treat the internal problems of a tooth, usually consisting of the dental pulp. Root canals are done to restore a tooth that might otherwise be removed from the mouth.

Traditional root canal treatment did not involve the use of modern facets as it is today. Treatments involving Root Canal in Knoxville, TN can last between one to three visits to a specialized dentist, usually an endodontist or a root canal specialist. When you visit a highly experienced professional, the ailing pulps as well as the root canals of the tooth and the pulp chamber are cleaned before they are sealed.

Root canals are the inner cavity part of the tooth cavity within the root of the teeth. A healthy and functional tooth has live tissues. The primary component that is contained in the cavity consists of the blood vessels and nerves, which help in transmission of feeling of pain and temperature. The degree of sensitivity of the root canals differs from one person to another.

When you are diagnosed with a decayed or damaged tooth, your endodontist may recommend a root canal where all the affected nerves are removed together with the interior tissues inside the pulp chamber. When most people hear about root canal, what crosses their minds is that dreaded procedure that defines traditional treatment options.

The fortunate thing is that root canals are now performed in a carefully controlled environment. It involves drilling small openings, removing the nerves and inhibiting the flow of blood in the tissues and the pulp. The specialist then cleans the canal, shapes it and sterilized. After all is done, the specialist seals the canal with the most appropriate filling material just in the same way an ordinary cavity would be sealed.

Unlike what some people think, root canal therapy is a treatment that seeks to repair a tooth to avoid further damage. Root canal therapies are the most appropriate alternative for those who have severely damaged internal nerves. Root Canal in Knoxville, TN is what you need in order to prevent abscess or removal of the affected tooth. To know more Click Here.

Google, the owners of YouTube, claimed in a court briefing today that the one billion dollar lawsuit against the company “threatens the way hundreds of millions of people legitimately exchange information.”

Viacom Inc. is suing Google over 150,000 videos, for which Viacom owns the copyright, that were allegedly being shown on YouTube. Google has responded by saying that they followed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which prevents companies from being prosecuted if they bring down copyrighted content as soon as they are made aware of it. “Viacom’s lawsuit challenges the protections of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that Congress enacted a decade ago to encourage the development of services like YouTube,” said Google. “Congress recognized that such services could not and would not exist if they faced liability for copyright infringement based on materials users uploaded to their services. It chose to immunize these services from copyright liability provided they are properly responsive to notices of alleged infringement from content owners.”

“Looking at the online world today, there is no question that Congress made the correct policy choice,” Google continued. “Legitimate services like YouTube provide the world with free and authorized access to extraordinary libraries of information that would not be available without the DMCA — information created by users who have every right to share it.”

Google then claimed that “YouTube also fulfills its end of the DMCA bargain, and indeed goes far beyond its legal obligations in assisting content owners to protect their works.”

While protesting outside the Scientology Church of Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, two members of the group Anonymous were arrested by DeKalb County riot police while standing opposite the Church of Scientology-owned building.

The two protesters, who earlier participated in the delivery of a ‘global speech’ collaboratively written and read by members of Anonymous at protests worldwide, are believed to have been charged by Dekalb police for protesting without a permit and causing ‘offensive or hazardous conditions’. However, other members of Anonymous who took leading roles in arranging the protest are adamant that the Dekalb police had previously told them they did not need a permit to protest.

The arrests were filmed by other members of Anonymous who subsequently posted the videos onto popular video-sharing website YouTube. The videos show a very quick arrest in which the arresting officers did not read the Miranda rights of the protesters, which—contrary to popular belief—is only required to be read before a police officer interviews someone in custody. This was confirmed by other members of the group who say they didn’t hear their rights being read before they were led away. “They were grabbed and taken behind the complex in one swift strike. There was no Miranda rights read when they were initially grabbed” said one member of Anonymous interviewed by Wikinews.

In other videos published on YouTube, the same members of Anonymous were shown thanking police for their work and offering them some of the cake members of Anonymous had brought to the protest, shortly before they were arrested.

Members of Anonymous have composed an open letter to Dekalb’s Chief of Police, asking if such a show of police strength was really needed at a non-violent protest organised and attended mainly by college students and young Americans.

Drivers showing their support for the protesters by honking their car horns while driving past were followed by police bikes waiting in the Scientology building’s driveway and given tickets for violating noise ordinance laws. However, many members of Anonymous have voiced confusion over these tickets, as the honks of support were only 2-3 seconds in duration at most, and noise ordinance laws state a horn must be sounded for longer than 60 seconds to count as a violation of the law. When, after the arrests were made, the police started to adopt the policy of ticketing drivers who honked, members of Anonymous quickly raised “Do not honk” signs to drivers.

Both of the members of Anonymous have been released, one with a bail of $763.00. There are confirmed to be two charges standing against one. No information has been released from the police department at this point.

They did no wrong, and that building they were led into was reportedly the Scientology Org building.

Initial reaction from bloggers was generally critical of the arrests. Kalira of Doomfeller blog wrote: “This is UNACCEPTABLE. They did no wrong, and that building they were led into was reportedly the Scientology Org building. If the police—nay, the walking tanks, totally uncalled for with a peaceful protest—had them unmask inside … suffice it to say if they get harassed, there will be great big steaming piles of hell to pay.”

Scientology critic Jeff Jacobsen, who was interviewed by Wikinews on February 19, wrote on his blog: “But then I see that the Atlanta police arrested two Anons, and were even stopping cars that honked in approval of the protest! Is Atlanta not a part of the United States? I don’t get it.”

In the past, advanced spinal conditions almost always meant extensive, open-back surgery. Often called traditional back surgery , these procedures were used to treat everything from a ruptured disc to spinal stenosis.

Open-back surgeries are incredibly invasive and traumatic, cutting through the muscle tissue of the back to reach and oftentimes remove parts of the spine. Recovery times are known to take as long as a year, and a full recovery of the muscles in the back is highly improbable.

Luckily, outpatient surgical centers offer cutting-edge minimally invasive outpatient surgeries that can help set you on the path toward a healthy spine with a minimum of downtime.

How does it work?

Outpatient spinal surgery centers perform what are known as endoscopic surgeries. Endoscopic surgeries are performed via a tiny camera and tube called an endoscope. A laser is attached to the endoscope to allow surgeons to remove troublesome parts of discs or spine.

The equipment allows professionals to reach the spine through a much smaller incision than traditional open back surgery. Whereas the open -back surgery incisions alone can take up to two weeks to heal, endoscopic spinal surgery is typically an outpatient procedure.

Use of an endoscope allows access to the spine without the need to cut through the muscles of the back, making the extensive physical therapy associated with open back surgery a thing of the past.

Conditions Treated Via Endoscopic Surgeries

These centers offer a number of different treatments for many spinal conditions including spinal stenosis, herniated or bulging discs and other spinal conditions. A few of the procedures available include:

Endoscopic discectomy a laser-assisted surgery that removes bulging or damaged portions of the spine s intervertebral discs.

Foraminotomy- an endoscopic procedure that opens up the spinal canal to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and protruding nerve roots.

Laminotomy- this procedure relieves the pressure on pinched nerve roots.

And many more

The Treatment Process

The quest to end your debilitating back pain should always begin at one place, your primary care physician s office. Only your physician can accurately diagnose what is causing your back pain and set you on a course to fix it. Your physician should give you a regimen of conservative treatment options to try before recommending any surgery. A few conservative methods that have helped other back pain sufferers find relief are pain medicine, stretching, inversion boards, a change in lifestyle (e.g. cutting down on junk food, alcohol and tobacco use), and exercise geared toward strengthening your back and core muscles.

If after several months you are gaining no relief from your symptoms, surgery may be an option. Always research your choice of ambulatory endoscopic surgery center.

Spinal surgery is an important and personal step. Try to find one that believes in a patient first philosophy, potentially providing patients with a designated representative who will walk them through the entire process from initial consultation through recovery.

Try to find Experts

Give their web site an once-over. Look for accreditations from the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.

Do they explain that all surgery should be used as a last resort after conservative methods have failed to provide relief? If the center you are researching is attempting to give you a hard sell on surgery, you should look elsewhere.

Check off-site reviews and customer satisfaction ratings. In the age of the internet, people are readily vocal about their experiences with any given business. If the center is poorly rated, try somewhere else.

However, if the endoscopic surgery center you are researching appears to be a trusted source of excellent patient care, do not hesitate to set up a consultation.

A chemical part of the saliva of a poisonous lizard, the Gila monster, has become an integral partner in the control of Type 2 diabetes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved its use for people who have not achieved adequate control of their diabetes with oral medications.

Byetta, or exenatide, is produced by Amylin Pharmaceuticals. It is injected before eating morning and evening meals as part of a combination treatment with oral drugs. The FDA said it could be approved as a stand-alone treatment if the drug companies can support such use with data.

Eli Lilly & Co. was the development partner in creation of the drug.

“With Byetta’s demonstrated effects on blood sugar and its safety profile, physicians and patients now have a new approach to fight the growing diabetes epidemic,” said Sidney Taurel, CEO of Lilly.

At Thanksgiving dinner David Shankbone told his white middle class family that he was to interview Reverend Al Sharpton that Saturday. The announcement caused an impassioned discussion about the civil rights leader’s work, the problems facing the black community and whether Sharpton helps or hurts his cause. Opinion was divided. “He’s an opportunist.” “He only stirs things up.” “Why do I always see his face when there’s a problem?”

Shankbone went to the National Action Network’s headquarters in Harlem with this Thanksgiving discussion to inform the conversation. Below is his interview with Al Sharpton on everything from Tawana Brawley, his purported feud with Barack Obama, criticism by influential African Americans such as Clarence Page, his experience running for President, to how he never expected he would see fifty (he is now 53). “People would say to me, ‘Now that I hear you, even if I disagree with you I don’t think you’re as bad as I thought,'” said Sharpton. “I would say, ‘Let me ask you a question: what was “bad as you thought”?’ And they couldn’t say. They don’t know why they think you’re bad, they just know you’re supposed to be bad because the right wing tells them you’re bad.”

The Most Darkest Period of China Machinery Industry Has Gone

by

Deland Selectchina

The recovery of China machinery industry will evolve from downstream special equipment to machine parts, then to machine tools and other general equipments, which is a gradual process. Now the demand still mainly comes from domestic, such as railway, highway, subway and other items, if the private investment and exports recover in the second half year, the construction machinery industry will still be the most beneficial industry, but the recovery of machine tools and other general

slitting machine

, shipping industry are lagging behind. As the raw material price is increasing continuously and the power is not enough, it is expected that the profit of machinery industry will be improved in the second half year.

At present, the packing machine

industry is undergoing a gentle revival. Because the capacity utilization rate was insufficient and the

plastic valve

product price decreased in the first half year, the performance is lower than anticipation, especially some export-oriented industries, such as shipping, forklifts and bulldozers industries have not went out of the recession yet. But the darkest period of

blow molding machine

industry has gone.

In the rainy season in July, the chain decrease of the construction machinery

products sales volume is normal phenomenon. Benefit from the infrastructure, the sale of cranes, excavators and

engineering machineycip

represents positive growth for two consecutive months compared with the same period last year, but the sale of earthwork mechanical loading

machines

and bulldozers is average in performance. The increase of new project starting is forward-looking indicator, even if it falls, it also has high position in history, and the construction machinery sales of the second half year will not be slack in the off-season.

The output of domestic CNC metal cutting machine

tools has recovered, and the machine tool export of July this year first achieved the positive growth over previous year.

The export demand has come down the bottom; rebound has not been obvious yet. The link relative ratio of South Korean construction equipment pvc fitting

sales in June continued to move up, down 40% compared with previous year, and the decrease rate is narrow; the sales volume of Japanese construction machinery only achieved 30%-40% of last year’s, and the machine tool orders are only 20% of last year’s; machinery orders in Germany factory fell 46% compared with previous year, the decrease rate is narrow compared with May; American machine tool orders declined 64% compared with the same period last year.
