For ABC, the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks will be marked with a new kind of controversy over alleged political motives in a new miniseries, slated to be aired on prime-time slots this coming Monday and Tuesday.

Titled The Path to 9/11, the 5-hour film is slated to be aired over the course of 2 nights, culminating on Monday with dramatizations of the October 2000 attacks on the US Navy ship, USS Cole, as well as fictionalized portrayals of the attacks on the World Trade Center towers, which killed 2,973. Many officials and watchdogs, however, have criticized the film for allegedly stretching and fabricating the truth. Samuel R. Berger, a national security adviser made a statement denouncing the film claiming the film “flagrantly misrepresents my personal actions.” Former secretary of state Madeleine Albright called one scene involving her “false and defamatory,” and former White House aide Bruce R. Lindsey said “it is unconscionable to mislead the American public about one of the most horrendous tragedies our country has ever known.”

A flurry of on-line email campaigns, protesting the film and demanding it be corrected or not aired, has erupted. According to the liberal group Truemajority, “It’s not just that ABC’s movie is slanted. Big parts of it are simply untrue. The producer himself even admitted to simply improvising a key scene which depicts the Clinton administration letting bin Laden go when they had him in their sights — a complete fabrication. Last night, the movie’s star, Harvey Keitel, said ‘It turned out not all the facts were correct.'”

According to ABC’s entertainment division, the film is a “dramatization… not a documentary.” However, several key scenes, which critics allege distort the September 11 commission’s report on which the film is based, are being reworked, reshot, or pulled altogether, and ABC is reportedly “mulling the idea of yanking the mini altogether.”

For ABC, credibility, along with what is reported to be millions of dollars spent in advertising, is on the line. The film includes many noted actors, including Donnie Wahlberg, Patricia Heaton, and Harvey Keitel, who plays counterterrorism official John O’Neil. However, criticism has come from within as well. Many who worked on the film have spoken out, claiming the film’s accuracy and objectivity is questionable. One writer, Cyrus Nowrasteh, in an interview with Los Angeles radio station KRLA-AM, claimed that moments had been improvised, and writer James Bamford claimed on MSNBC that an FBI agent working as a consultant on the film quit due to allegations of fabrication.

Action committees from all across the political spectrum have made statements on the film, including liberal watchdog MoveOn.org, which, in a recent statement to its members, stated that “ABC shouldn’t have any role in the political exploitation of 9/11.”

“This docudrama is designed to do just that,” the statement continued. “It’s spreading a false message to millions of viewers across the country.”

“No one has seen the final version of the film, because the editing process is not yet complete, so criticisms of film specifics are premature and irresponsible,” said Disney, the company that owns ABC.

Sore Penis Top 5 Causes and Treating Common Penis Health Problems

by

John Dugan

What many men dont realize is that, while some penis problems are serious and should be treated by a medical professional, many common penis issues can be treated, or even prevented, by knowing penile health tips, using care, cleanliness and, in some cases, applying a penis crme containing penis vitamins and minerals. Most health reports indicate that men are often uncomfortable talking with their doctors about penis health problems, electing to deal with pain or discomfort rather than endure the embarrassment of discussing penis issues, such as a sore penis, with a health care provider. Five of the most common causes of a sore penis are described here, along with hints for keeping the penis skin smooth, supple and healthy.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOTx-uoWkJk[/youtube]

1. Frequent masturbation or aggressive sex Rough handling is one of the primary reasons that most men experience a sore penis from time to time. Vigorous sexual activity or masturbation, especially without proper lubrication, can leave the penis skin sore and sensitive for days. Ensuring that the skin is properly moisturized and well-nourished through the use of crmes containing penis nutrients such as vitamins A and D can help to alleviate the soreness caused by friction and promote overall healthy, attractive penile skin. 2. Dry penis skin Dry and flaking skin of the penis can often lead to soreness if left untreated. Dry skin can occur as the result of friction from sex or from sensitivity to certain cleansers and the spermicides that are often found in condoms. Treating the skin with a moisture-rich formula (shea butter is often recommended by dermatologists for sensitive penis skin) can help to keep the skin smooth and supple and to retain its natural hydration. 3. Penis rash Penis rash, which may result from dry skin, sensitivity to chemicals such as soaps or spermicides, or fungal infections, may cause soreness, itching and discomfort. Boosting the bodys natural immune ability through treatment with a nutrient-rich penis crme containing vitamins C and B5 can increase resistance to infection and allow the skin to heal quickly after minor surface damage. 4. Infections of the penis skin Minor infections of the skin are common, especially in the warm, moist environment of the genital area. Bacterial and fungal infections can lead to inflammation, causing a sore penis that is tender to the touch. Keeping the skin moisturized can prevent small fissures from forming in the outer dermal layer which may allow harmful bacteria to enter; vitamin-rich penis treatments that moisturize and protect are recommended for maintaining a healthy penis. 5. Peyronies disease Over time, masturbation, sex, and minor injuries to the skin may result in a buildup of scar tissue under the outer dermal layer of the penis skin, which can cause the penis to bend or curve whenever an erection occurs. This condition, known as Peyronies disease, can lead to a sore penis and discomfort during sex. Although there is no known cure for this unpleasant problem once it develops, men of all ages may prevent it from occurring by keeping the penis skin in top condition through the use of penis-specific nutrients that work to prevent minor damage to the delicate dermal tissue of the penis. Preventing sore penis and other penis health problems In order to prevent common penis issues such as sore penis, dry and flaking skin, infections, rash, and other uncomfortable penis problems, it is important to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly, consuming a nutritious diet, and practicing good hygiene. Men should also be selective in their choice of sexual partners and use appropriate protection during sex. In addition, treating the skin with a nutrient-rich penis health crme (most health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) that is formulated with penis-specific vitamins and minerals on a daily basis can help to ensure that the penis skin stays smooth, supple, and responsive to stimulation.

Original Story
  • “Hotel development proposal could displace Buffalo, NY business owners” — Wikinews, February 17, 2006

Friday, March 10, 2006

Buffalo, New York —The Common Council of Buffalo voted on Tuesday to send the Elmwood Village Hotel proposal “to committee for further discussion”, after citing the need for more public involvement.

The Elmwood Village Hotel is a development proposal by the Savarino Construction Services Corporation, a project designed by the architect Karl Frizlen of The Frizlen Group. The hotel would be placed on the southeast corner of Elmwood and Forest Avenues in Buffalo.

To make way for the project, at least five buildings located at 1109 to 1121 Elmwood Ave would be demolished. At least two properties on Forest Avenue could also be demolished. The Elmwood properties, according to Eva Hassett, Vice President of Savarion Construction, are “under contract”, but it is unclear if Savarino Construction actually owns the Elmwood properties. Hans Mobius, a former mayorial candidate, is still believed to be the current owner the properties. Mobius also owns 607 Forest Avenue.

The properties 605 and 607 Forest Avenue could also be included in the proposal according to Hassett.

“We would use a Special Development Plan to rezone 1119-1121 Elmwood and 605 Forest to a C-2 zoning category,” stated Hassett. It is possible that Savarino Construction may try to obtain a variance for 605 Forest, which would allow them to enforce eminent domain, should the hotel be allowed to go forward.

The building at 607 Forest was also discussed to be rezoned, but it is unclear what the plans would be for that property. During the February 28 Common Council meeting, Hassett stated that the properties 605 and 607 were “now off the agenda”.

Pano Georgiadis, owner of Pano’s Restaurant at 1081 Elmwood, owns the property at 605 Forest and attended Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.

“Having a hotel is a bright idea. We all love the idea of a hotel, but the way that it is presented, is wishful thinking. This hotel does not fit. It’s like putting two gallons of water in a gallon jug, it does not fit. At the last meeting, the architect admitted that they are planning to put the undergound parking lot and the hotel, right at the property line. If I open my window, I will be able to touch the wall, that goes fifty feet high”, said Georgiadis.

“There is a problem having a seventy-two room hotel and fifty-five parking spaces. That means that all the other cars will spill all over the neighborhood. The footprint is simply too small. If you have a bigger [parking] lot, and a smaller hotel, I will welcome a hotel. I have a parking lot at my own business, and I am chasing people all day long. Remember, the city says it has ‘zero tolerance [for illegal parking]’. Try telling that to the guy from Albany who came to see his kids, that are going to Buffalo State, who would get tickets totaling over a hundred dollars”, added Georgiadis.

The city’s Planning Board is scheduled to meet on March 14, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. about the proposal. Although a discussion will take place, no vote is expected to be taken.

At the moment, none of the properties are zoned for a hotel. Savarino Construction plans on asking for a C2 zoning permit. If that does not work, they plan to implement a new zoning plan called a “special development plan” which would allow for only a hotel on the site. That zone would not be able to be changed.

“This [project] justifies Mobius’s refusal to invest in any maitenance[sic] or improvements”, on the properties said Clarence Carnahan, a local resident. “Where were the Council persons over the years? Where were the city inspectors over the years, to make sure that he maintained and improved his properties? The government was supposed to be protecting, not being preditorial. I see a predatorial issue here when it comes to this hotel. Over the years: Why has the local government been disfunctional when it came to Mobius’s properties? Refusal to invest in improvements, doesn’t that sound like a slumlord? Maybe I am missing a point here, but what kind of messages does this send to other slumlords that havn’t[sic] been jailed or fined? It’s [the hotel] trying to be pushed through.”

Carnahan also presented signs for residents and or business owners who are opposed to the hotel, that could be placed in windows or on stakes in the yard. Some of the signs said, ‘No tell hotel’, ‘Hans off, no hotel’, ‘It takes more than a hotel to make a village’. and ‘Keep Elmwood free, no hotel’. Carnahan plans on making more signs for a protest to be held on Saturday March 18, at 2:00 p.m. (EST) on Elmwood and Forest. Some signs were given to individuals after the meeting.

“First things first, Hans is the problem, and I don’t think it has been addressed. Let’s roll back the clock on this project. What can we do with Hans? There is such thing as eminent domain, which could be of greater interest to the community, to seize the property at its lowest assessed value”, said Nancy Pollina, co-owner of Don Apparel with Patty Morris at 1119 Elmwood. “There are so many ideas that have not been explored and we are about to give this parcel away, to a big developer.”

Mobius has not returned any calls by Wikinews regarding the situation.

A freelance journalist writing for Wikinews has obtained a letter, exclusively, addressed to one of the five business owners from Hans Mobius stating:

There is a proposal to develop my property which you are currently renting. Because of opposition to this development, it does not look like it will happen. I will let you know if there any changes.

Despite the letter, there have been no plans or decisions made to end the proposal.

To date, none of the business owners or residents of 1119-1121 Elmwood have received an eviction notice.

Business owners and residents gave an indication of what they would like to see happen at the corner; a project similar to one done locally last year. There, developers renovated two buildings on Auburn and Elmwood Avenues, merging the buildings into one thus allowing for more shop space. Among some of the shops to move in after the development were Cone Five Pottery, The Ruby Slipper, and Abraham’s Jewelers. Prior to the renovation work, the left building in the picture was boarded up for several years. Many of the concerned locals would like to see a similar development on Forest and Elmwood.

Rocco Termini, a developer in Buffalo, proposed a similar design at the February 28 community meeting

In an interview after the February 28 meeting, Termini stated, “I will be willing to take a look at this myself, or I would be more than happy to be partners with Sam, Sam Savarino”, who is President and Chief Executive Officer of Savarino Construction Services Corp.

So far Savarino Construction has no plans to team up with Termini.

Israeli media is reporting that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opened his eyes for the first time since he suffered a major stroke on January 4, 2006.

However, hospital officials said the reports were generated by the Sharon family’s “impression of eyelid movement, whose medical significance is unclear.”

“He was listening to a tape of his grandson and you could see tears in his eyes for a matter of seconds before he closed them again,” a doctor treating Sharon told AFP news agency on condition of anonymity.

Army Radio, citing unidentified close associates of Sharon, say the Prime Minister could “recognize people around him.”

However, hospital officials state that it is “too early to tell whether the development represented a significant improvement or was just a temporary reflex.”

Sharon had undergone a tracheotomy on Sunday to help with his breathing and to help prevent infection from his respirator tube.

Rod Blagojevich, the former governor of the US state of Illinois, was indicted on Thursday on charges of corruption for allegedly planning to “sell” Barack Obama’s Senate seat when the latter vacated it to become President.

Five of his advisers, including Blagojevich’s brother Robert, were also indicted. The others are former fundraiser, Christopher Kelly, former chief of staff John Harris, former aide Lon Monk, and the lobbyist William Cellini.

A jury indicted Blagojevich on sixteen felony counts, among them wire fraud, extortion conspiracy, and racketeering conspiracy. The indictment states that if convicted, the ex-governor could face over three hundred years in prison, as well as US$4 million worth of fines, including restitution.

The governor insists that he did nothing illegal, and claims that he was the victim of a politically motivated witch hunt. He pledged to fight his charges in court.

“I’m saddened and hurt but I am not surprised by the indictment. I am innocent,” read a statement released by Blagojevich. “I now will fight in the courts to clear my name. I would ask the good people of Illinois to wait for the trial and afford me the presumption of innocence that they would give to all their friends and neighbors.”

Blagojevich, a governor serving his second term, was arrested on December 9 of last year on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Shortly thereafter, the Illinois House impeached him before the Senate, which nearly unanimously convicted him and expelled him from office.

Penis Injury Quiz – Match the Cringe-worthy Act to the Pain

by

John Dugan

It’s hard to gather statistics on penis injuries. Men with sore peckers often neglect to make a doctor’s appointment because they’re just too embarrassed, but chances are, every guy out there has dealt with a painful penis at least once. And it’s likely that the problem came about due to something really common (and maybe something a little stupid).

This quiz contains a few common causes of penis soreness, along with symptoms that should prompt immediate penis care. Matching the injury to the incident could help men learn how to keep their own member just a little safer in the future.

The Symptoms

1.Tiny bits of skin trapped between two pieces of metal.

2.A popping sound, along with a big bruise and a whole lot of pain.

3.Skin looks scorched and boiled, and it’s intensely painful.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O8f89CbwvU[/youtube]

4.The tip of the penis is cracked and dry, and the whole unit looks red.

5.Sudden bleeding with pain.

The Actions

A. Hitting a bone during sex. An erect penis is flooded with blood, and in this state, the tissues are firm and inflexible. If a guy hits a partner’s bone during sex, that stiffened tissue can rupture, leading to severe pain. This type of injury is considered a medical emergency, as men often need surgery to fix the damage.

B. Getting dressed without underwear. Going commando means putting skin at risk of direct contact with a zipper, and sometimes, loose skin can get trapped and embedded. Typically, it’s best to go to the emergency room with these injuries, rather than wrestling with the clothing at home. Men with zipper trauma may need assistance removing the trapped flesh safely, as well as attention to caring for the torn skin.

C. Torn frenulum. This narrow band of skin connects the foreskin to the rest of the penis. In men who have been cut, only a tiny bit of it remains. Men who haven’t been cut can have much more difficulty with this tissue. During sex, the friction can become so strong that this little bit of tissue is stretched to the breaking point, and when it is, it can cause a significant amount of bleeding. Some men can heal alone at home, with no help from a doctor. But some men will need a little medical assistance in order to recover from this injury.

D. Excessive masturbation. Whanging away at the penis for hours on end can leave the skin feeling chafed and sore. Even when a guy uses a lube, the skin might cry out for relief when he’s been abusing the tool for too long. This sort of problem often goes away with rest and a little TLC, but men who have done a lot of damage might need to see a doctor, just to make sure they haven’t done long-term damage.

E. Using toothpaste, muscle crme or another unusual substance as masturbation lube. These substances can seem fun and exciting, but penile skin is sensitive, and it’s apt to react when it’s exposed to warming agents like menthol or capsaicin. Injuries like this tend to heal without a lot of attention or medical support, so men can often get by without seeing a doctor, but, they should call for advice if the pain is overwhelming.

Answer Key

1.B

2.A

3.E

4.D

5.C

The Lessons

The penis might be a whole lot of fun to play with, but this tool is also very sensitive, and it’s remarkably easy to injure. That’s why it pays to be careful with the penis, even if being careful means that the pleasure quotient is a little less intense.

Using a penis health crme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) could be a perfect addition to a careful lifestyle. Quality products contain the elements the tissues need to knit back together after an injury, and an emollient formula can keep skin soft and smooth, so it can resist abuse just a little easier.

New Zealand has relaxed the safety rules imposed on internal airlines in 2002, once more allowing passengers to carry pocket knives with blades less than 60mm long and knitting needles.

Other larger items remain banned, including ice-skates, pool cues, hockey sticks, skateboards, cricket bats and harpoons.

Other countries more at risk from terrorism such as the United States of America and Australia will maintain their stricter rules and continue to ban a range of small, sharp objects from their internal flights.

The airlines have also agreed to help return items seized from passengers before boarding.

Figures released by Simon Power, law and order spokesman for the National party, show that the New Zealand Labour led government lets 81% of all prisoners not do any work while in prison. Newspaper, Sunday News says that some Christchurch prisoners have been given a barbecue for good behavior.

Simon Power’s figures show that of the 7,612 prisoners only 19% (1,470) of them took part in Corrections Inmate Employment during 2006. But in 2005 it was at 23% and in 2004 it was at 26%. He says that the prisons with the least amount of inmates working are: Rolleston with 8.6%, Mount Eden with 8.7%, Rimutaka with 11%, Christchurch Women’s with 13.5% and Dunedin with 13.8%. Mr Power said: “These figures are an appalling indictment on this Government’s approach to prisoner rehabilitation and preparing them for release.”

“In May, Corrections Minister Damien O’Connor announced a strategy that he said would help in ‘significantly increasing the number of prisoners in work and training. But a week later this was shown to be nothing more than window dressing when the Budget increased funding for prisoner employment by a measly $336,000 – up 1%.”

“They have cut funding [on the Corrections Department] by 27% since 2001/02, from $46.5 million to $34 million.”

Mr Power blames the low work rate on the big prison construction budget of $490 million. “There would have been more than a miserable $336,000 extra to spend on effective rehabilitation and work schemes,” he said.

“[Mr O’Conner] seems happier to spend $11 million on landscaping four new prisons and allow prisoners to sit around playing Playstations and Xboxes on their flat-screen TVs than he is about helping them get better prepared for when they are released.”

“Prisoners should be doing meaningful work, training or study while they are in prisons, and I imagine the public would agree,” Mr Power added.

Mr Power, commenting on the barbecue, said: “These people are in prison because they were found to be in serious breach of the law. The victims of their crimes will be grossly offended by the idea that they are being rewarded for anything. This is the just the latest in a long line of incredibly bad decisions made by the Corrections Department over the past year and taxpayers have had enough.”

Bevan Hanlon, president for the Corrections Officers Association, said: “The Mobsters getting a BBQ was a “joke”. (Christchurch Prison) staff are reporting the smell of dope every day. Mobsters are threatening staff on a daily basis and there appears to be high cellphone use (mobile phones are banned in jail). So what happens? They are given a BBQ.”
